We needed to send transactional emails and Mandrill came to the top of our list as we're comfortable with the tool already. Unfortunately, upon trying it out, Mailchimp seems to discourage the use of Mandrill. We had difficult journey trying to make use of the tool, and finally figured that they need a minimum $50 before we can start using Mandrill. Many people seem to be moving away due to the same reason, we are putting Mandrill on hold.
